CIAF will be set in the lush rainforest surroundings of Tanks Arts Centre, situated within the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct.
Tanks Arts Centre is approximately 10 kilometres from the Cairns CBD and 4.5km from Cairns airport.
The three ‘Tanks’ that comprise the art centre are relics of World War II and were originally used as fuel storage tanks by the Royal Australian Navy.
Converted to a cultural centre in 1993, Tanks Arts Centre provides a unique environment for CIAF 09.

Djumbunji Press KickArts Fine Art Printing is a new fine art printmaking studio in Cairns' Edge Hill cultural precinct.
Designed to nurture the extraordinary talents of printmakers in this region, Djumbunji Press offers a full suite of studio services, including artist-in-residence, production facilities, workshops, accredited courses and artist in residence programs.
Djumbunji is a traditional word of the Gimuy Yidinji people meaning 'belongs to scorpion place' and honours the location of the press in the area of Bunda Djumbunji’s Scorpion Mountain, the traditional name for the Whitfield Mountain range.
Centre of Contemporary Arts | 96 Abbott St | Cairns
CoCA (as it is known to locals) brings together a variety of exciting art forms under the one roof.
A dynamic cultural facility in the heart of the city, CoCA is home to three arts companies: JUTE, a professional theatre company, KickArts Contemporary Arts, and the End Credits Film Club.
A shuttle bus service to Tanks Art Centre will run between the city centre, esplanade and major hotels, with stops at the Cairns Regional Gallery and Centre of Contemporary Arts (CoCA) and JUTE Theatre.
Disability access
Tanks Arts Centre and the Centre of Contemporary Arts (CoCA) have a full range of amenities to assist those with disabilities. The centres can readily accommodate wheelchairs, and all entrances are ramped. There are also specially designed toilets and telephone booths.
The centre’s car parks contain bays reserved for drivers with disabilities.
