Digital Journeys: Explorations and Inspirations This exhibit includes an array of digital works by artists from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visual arts program at Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE. The digital world may be a new one, but in the hands of Indigenous artists, traditional and contemporary life comes out in bold new colours and arrangements. The exhibition covers a wide range of topics and imagery, reflecting the limitless possibilities inherent in the digital medium. Whether it is the innovative use of old photographs or the playful manipulation of linocuts and pencil drawings, these works highlight the incredible creativity possible. All works for sale. From Rags to Riches: Fine Art Textiles For almost 3O years, TAFE students have been expressing their Indigenous identity and artistic passions through the production of handmade fabrics that dazzle the eye with their vibrant colour and rich texture. Using techniques such as batik and screenprinting on a variety of textiles including linen, cotton and silk, these works explore individual identity and creativity across a wide spectrum of possibilities. Pathways exhibition The Pathways selling exhibition showcases selected works from more than 2O Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from around the Far North Queensland region. Each of these artists has participated in the UMI Arts skills-based program, Exhibition Ready, with participating artists at various stages of their careers. The members of this Indigenous community are fighting to make the best of what they have.' Spirits without Borders Work by Gimuy (Cairns-born) artist, Jeremy Geia, will be on display in his first solo exhibition. Using bold colour, texture and imagery that can be described as abstract or figurative, the artist's acrylics on linen depict stories about his life, his dreams and the spirit world. Stories of Pinnarinch Cairns-based artist Lisa Michl is widely exhibited around Australia and internationally. Her stunning works are a way of mapping country and sharing the knowledge of significant places and stories passed down by her ancestors. UMI Arts Indigenous Markets Part of the UMI Arts Big Talk One Fire Indigenous Cultural Festival, the markets bring together authentic traditional and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, dance and storytelling, as well as arts, crafts and clothing stalls.
